Marc Vezina came to Tofino in 1990 to work as a kayak guide and live the west coast lifestyle, close to the elements. Marc’s first home on this wild coast was aboard the “Tilting Hilton”, a converted fishing boat; another was a small cabin on Arnet island. Both required commuting by kayak with supplies in all kinds of weather. During those pre-cellphone days, being stranded for a while was part of the lifestyle.

Marc continued to work as a senior kayak guide until 2004 when he started taking time away from his busy guiding schedule to repair bicycles for friends. He had previously worked in bike shops in Vancouver from 1983 to 1986 before enrolling and graduating from the Capilano University Outdoor Recreation Management Program in 1989.

TOF Cycles was started in 2005 with lots of background support from Marc’s wife Adi. Although it has gone through changes, the objective of facilitating and promoting bicycles in Tofino has remained the same over the years.

In 2020, bicycle supply chains around the world became seriously compromised due to the Covid pandemic and the ensuing lockdowns. Getting repair parts and bicycles became extremely difficult if not impossible. It was time for Marc to reinvent and redirect his passion for bicycles and the outdoors.

Starting in 2021, Marc will be offering 3-hour E-Bike Tours. In order to create more intimate and memorable experiences; groups will be kept small and semiprivate. Departure times will be adjusted to coincide with low tides to offer the best beach cycling adventures!
